MOTOWNS GREATEST HITS should translate into Liverpool's Greatest Hips because they were swinging in the aisles during the night I tell no lies, even those with two left feet were struggling to keep still in their seats, the vibrancy and beat of the music even got my 68 year old neighbour in the seat next to me shaking and clapping the spectacular performers along on stage.
Dancing in the Streets is a celebration of the golden years of Motown! The sixties saw the emergence of a brand name in popular music-Motown-whose success was difficult to credit, even now 40 years later.
In the early sixties, in a town called Detroit, the local kids were looking for a form of expression that they could call their own. They found it at the Motown Hitsville Studio.
In 1959, Berry Gordy, a successful songwriter with his first big hit 'Reet Petite' under his belt decided to form his own record company and, so in a timber frame bungalow at 2648 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit, Tamla Records was born.
During the years that followed black soul music started to reach a white audience. IN the hands of a talented pool of sensational song writers the ever growing stable of acts signed to the Motown labels produced hit after hit.
The show, directed by Ivor Novello Award winning Keith Strachan, captures that golden era of Motown. You will witness a re-creation of those famous acts with their look, costumes and unique choreography. You will be transported back in time to see and hear the talented Dancing in the Streets singers sing Baby Love in the style of the Supremes, My Girl as done by the Temptations, The Four Top's Classic Reach Out and the great Marvin Gaye will be remembered with the classic hits such as I heard it through the grapevine.
The Dancing in the Streets entourage re-create the energy, style and music of the stars of Motown.
Highly recommended if you like dancing....A fabulous enjoyable evening, the music was first class, popcorn wasn't bad too but didn't stay in the box for long as I couldn't keep still :-).
