Are you a business - Join Now!
Hello readers and welcome to my first column here at Local Xtra. My name is Lynn Anderton and I am a

qualified practising life coach living on the Wirral.

So if you have always wondered what the term ' life coach ' means then let me enlighten you, like lots

of other things in the UK ' life coaching ' has come here from the USA and its quite self-explanatory in that

just as a coach would coach an athlete with motivation and mentoring then a life coach does just that

only instead of training you for a sport you would be mentored on what you are trying to achieve from

your LIFE.

My sessions with clients usually involve working with people on a number of different issues from

work/life balance, career/business issues to relationship problems and any other emotional problems

that maybe affecting your life or well-being.

Over the past year I have developed my business further to include the use of films with coaching, I

frequently found that my clients would refer to characters or plots in films to express themselves or

what they desired from life, so I now incorporate this as a useful tool for developing a structure for

goal setting.

The other area of my business involves relationships and again this came about because of the

importance my clients placed on this area of their lives for fulfillment.

My work with clients here is to build confidence within themselves and take this into a new relationship

or an existing one, this helps people gain self-awareness and an understanding of other people's

behaviour in general.

So staying on the subject of CONFIDENCE here are some tips on learning how to control your confidence.

We normally associate confidence with someone who is bubbly and the life and soul of the party, this

is however, not necessarily true, even shy people can have high levels of self-confidence and if you

feel that confidence is a precarious quality in your life right now, whether your self-worth has taken a knock

or your confidence revolves around relationships or body image then take heed - the good news is that

you can improve the way you feel long-term by changing how you think -

THINK DIFFERENTLY

Ever had one of those days when you feel that life isnt delivering what you want - these are

' cup half-empty days '

Change them to ' cup half-full days ' by focusing on what is positive in your life and learning to

accept the negative things that you can't change and the ones you can.

Get Real - stop the ' if onlys ' learn to live for today and don't make excuses.

Trust your intuition - stop doubting decisions, learn to trust yourself and good things will come

your way.

Accept failure as a life-lesson and not a blow, this will help you recover faster and get back out there again.

IMPROVE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

The key is communication - confident people listen well and have a genuine interest in people -

remember ' you attract what you transmit ' so show interest and a caring understanding and it will

come back to you threefold.

Share your feelings with others - you don't have to agree with everyone's opinion just express yourself

honestly.

MAKE THE MOST OF YOURSELF

Don't dwell on weak point - emphasis your good points, find out what suits you and use it to the full.

Find something that makes you feel good - whether its dancing, golf or reading - just find the time

to do it.

And finally - have the courage to change, don't dwell on the things that are beyond your control,

embrace the things that your are able to achieve and just go for it.
