Liverpool Hope University*s women*s basketball team is celebrating
after winning the national BUSA Basketball Knockouts Women*s Plate
2007/08.
Liverpool Hope University met London Metropolitan
University in the tournament final at Hope Park recently, which resulted in an
exhilarating game that ended in a 50-49 victory for Hope.
Just two years ago, basketball fan and second year student, Felicity
Vaughan formed Liverpool Hope University*s women*s basketball team
with only five players. Since then the team has grown to 15 players and
has gained an enviable reputation among other University teams for their
passion and skill on the court.
Commenting on the tournament win, President and Founder, Felicity
Vaughan, said: *Winning this tournament is a huge achievement,
especially as half the team are brand new to the sport and have only
been playing since September. As a team they have gone on to become very
skilful players and I am so proud of what they have been able to
accomplish in such a short time.
*This tournament win was particularly important for us as not only
were we surrounded by our fantastic fans who have supported us all the
way, but our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Pillay even attended the game to
support the team. Now that we have our first tournament win under our
belts I am confident that we can go on to realise even more success.*
Felicity and Team Captain, Victoria Hinds are now entering the team
into as many games as possible to ensure that the players continue to
gain experience - even pitting them against male counterparts in a local
Sunday league!
